There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gambling is illegal. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel complex that highlights many comforts accompanying the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
