• Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features numerous comforts aside from the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
