• Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is against the law. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that highlights a number of amenities in addition to the casino, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
